Dr. Meaghan L. Barr is a hand and upper‑extremity surgeon dedicated to restoring function and improving quality of life for adults and children with injuries and/or disorders of the hand, wrist, and forearm. Her practice combines advanced surgical skill with a personalized, evidence‑based approach. She is passionate about helping patients return to work, sports, and everyday life faster and with less pain. She enjoys providing care to the residents of Stamford, Westport, and the greater Southern Connecticut area, where she lives.

Dr. Barr provides comprehensive care for the upper extremity. She specializes in the treatment of complex fractures, traumatic hand injuries, wrist and finger pain, arthritis, compressive neuropathies including carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel syndrome, tendon and ligament injuries, and peripheral nerve injuries. She is fellowship‑trained in microvascular techniques for digit and hand replantation, nerve transfers, and soft‑tissue coverage.

Dr. Barr has a strong academic track record, with peer-reviewed publications focused on clinical outcomes. Particular areas of interest include management of complex trauma and nerve injuries. Her research experience guides the protocols she uses in the clinic and in the OR.

Wrist & Hand Fractures - distal radius fractures, carpal bone fractures including scaphoid fractures, metacarpal fractures, phalangeal fractures

Complex Wrist Reconstruction - fracture dislocations including perilunate injuries, ligament reconstruction and tendon reconstruction, SNAC wrist, SLAC wrist, scaphoid non-union

Compressive Neuropathies - carpal tunnel, cubital tunnel, radial tunnel, Guyon's canal decompression

Microsurgical Nerve Repair, Nerve Transfers, Tendon Transfers - acute nerve injuries, nerve and tendon transfers to restore function after peripheral nerve injury

Digit & Hand Replantation/Revascularization - microvascular reconstruction of traumatic injuries and amputations

Arthritis – CMC arthritis, SLAC wrist, SNAC wrist, inflammatory arthritis including rheumatoid arthritis, MCP/PIP/DIP arthritis, salvage procedures for end-stage arthritis

Ligament & Tendon Injuries – TFCC tears, scapholunate/lunotriquetral ligament repair, flexor/extensor tendon reconstruction

Hand & Wrist Pain - surgical & non-surgical management of Dupuytren's Disease, trigger fingers, De Quervain's tenosynovitis

Procedures

Surgical fixation of hand and wrist fractures including distal radius fractures, carpal bone fractures, metacarpal fractures, and phalangeal fractures.

Surgical treatment of compressive neuropathies including carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel decompression.

Surgical treatment of hand and wrist arthritis including CMC arthroplasty, proximal row carpectomy, partial wrist fusion, total wrist fusion.

Microsurgical procedures including nerve repair, nerve transfers, microvascular reconstruction for dysvasular hands/digits, free tissue transfer for soft tissue coverage.

Surgical management of tendon and ligaments injuries including TFCC repair, scapholunate ligament reconstruction, flexor tendon repair, extensor tendon repair, tendon transfers.

Surgical and non-surgical management of Dupuytren's disease, trigger fingers, De Quervain's tenosynovitis.

Minimally invasive procedures such as wrist arthroscopy, endoscopic carpal tunnel release, and corticosteroid injections.

Research

Dr. Barr has a strong research background. After completing her undergraduate studies at Yale University, she spent two years performing basic science research investigating ceretrophic markers in metastatic melanoma. During medical school, her interests shifted towards outcomes based research. As a resident and fellow, her research focused on clinical outcomes for complex nerve injuries, wrist trauma, and replantation/revascularization procedures.
